In August of 2016, I decided that I needed a career change. I was already in the medical field but was no longer satisfied at my current place of employment. I have always had a passion for working with children, so I thought I would try to get a job at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
The only opening at that time for a Medical Assistant was on the Oncology floor. I was hesitant not knowing much about Oncology, but I applied anyway. To my surprise and utter delight, I was offered the position!
I had always wanted to go back to school to continue my education in the medical field and advance my career, but the timing was never right. I had been working for almost a year as a

I have learned so much in the short year I have worked in Oncology, but I know in my heart that this is the field I want to be in for a long time to come. Not only have
I learned about pediatric brain tumors and the available options to treat them, but I have developed professional and personal skills that will help me continue to grow. I have witnessed the hardships that families have to endure with this kind of trauma. I have heard the stories and seen firsthand all the testing and experimentation that goes on at University of Colorado’s lab for
Neuro-Oncology. I have developed such a deeper passion for the medical field that the only thing going through my mind was how can I help and be more involved. The answer was simple. Go back to school. With the support of my co-workers and family I took the plunge. I want to be able to help the many lives affected by cancer. That alone is a huge driving force that will continue to push me to reach all my dreams and goals.
I know the next few years are going to be hard. I am going to be busy with school, working full time and being an active mom of a two year old. But I have a great support
