Pediatric nurses take care of children up to 18 or 21 years of age and provide preventative and critical care. Pediatric nurses give developmental screenings, immunizations, prescribe medication, and treat common illnesses like chicken pox and tonsillitis. In addition, they also educate patients’ parents how to prevent childhood diseases, and about proper nutrition for growth and development. Education and training requires achieving a certification as a RN and earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at an accredited four-year college, or an Associate’s degree or diploma. After graduation, you must pass the NCLEX-RN national licensing exam to practice as a RN.
