Medical Assistant Career Goals

I have been interested in working in the health care field since I was a little girl. Originally I wanted to become a Pediatrician, but I changed my career path as I learned about all of the different opportunities available in the health care field. I 've worked as a medical assistant for the past five years and I am certain that I made the right choice by choosing a career in this field. I would like to advance in my career and continue to make a difference in the lives of the patient 's that I interact with. Although I enjoy working as a medical assistant, I would like to dedicate more time to patient education to disease prevention. I would like to focus on childhood obesity and the connection this condition has with metabolic disorders such as diabetes, PCOS, etc. I personally suffered from such diseases during my childhood and experienced first hand the effects that they have on the body, both physically and emotionally. I would like to combine my personal experiences in combination with my educational background to educate youth on how to prevent the development of these diseases. Kaplan University can help me attain my career goals by making sure I am well prepared for my profession upon graduation. This preparation would entail services such as providing me with job interview tips, resume critique, and academic support during my courses. A health educator must be able to identify problems and solve them, so courses that involve critical thinking would be beneficial to my success and attaining my goals. The main role of a health educator is to promote a healthy lifestyle. In order for me to do this, I must be well educated in proper nutrition and fitness. Kaplan can help me achieve this by educating me in topics such as portion control, calorie intake, and proper physical activity. In order for me to be a asset to the patients I assist, I must be well versed in these subjects. I depend on the educators at Kaplan University to provide me with the knowledge and tools needed to become a credible health …show more content…
I will have my Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Science, obtained from Kaplan University, and also have passed the CHES and gained national certification as a health educator. I will have implemented a program that teaches diet and fitness tips for children diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. I will also be working in partnership with the Oakland County Health Department on creating more advanced fitness programs in elementary schools and supplying healthier lunch choices. In addition, I will be making bi- monthly visits to local elementary and secondary schools, holding assemblies to promote healthy
