Gun Control: Solutions from both sides Gun control in America and the world has been a hot topic for many years. The right to bear arms in the United States is a unique constitutional right that is not shared in many parts of the world. The recent rise in mass shootings in the United States and around the world has reignited a standing stalemate on gun control. Lack of political progress in the United States has fueled both sides into continued lobbying for what they believe is in the best interest for all Americans. This article will bring into account two major advocates and their ideas and solutions to the gun control issue in America. A major advocate for gun rights is,
Wayne LaPierre and the NRA. LaPierre is the CEO and Executive vice president of the National Rifle Association. He joined the NRA in 1978 and has been a strong proponent of gun rights. LaPierre and the NRA are opposed to certain new government regulations on firearms. They are opposed to universal background checks which they believe would lead to a government registry. Gun rights advocates believe that would give the government the ability to confiscate those firearms. LaPierre and the NRA’s stance had always been that the Second Amendments right to bear arms should be unrestricted.
