Do we have the right to bear arms? Gun violence in the United States continues to increase due to citizens being able to personally purchase guns. Different states obtain different laws. Some state laws necessitate citizens to acquire a permit. Other state laws are more lenient and do not require citizens to receive a permit before purchasing a gun. Some state laws are in between. For an example, according to the Institute for Legislative Action, New York State law does not permit rifles and shotguns to be purchased (with a permit), registered, or carried. The NY times claims that this “appears to be the deadliest shooting rampage in American history”(Hauser and O’connor, 2007). The article states that, this shooting massacre occurred on April 16, 2007. takes an analytical approach to both sides of the debate. The skyrocketing rise in interest groups advocating on enforcing tougher firearm policies can be attributed to the incremented insecurities within public places, such as the ones mentioned in the documentary. There are no precise demands proclaimed by these advocates for the exception of “tougher firearm policies.” The theory behind their reasoning is that the implementation of tougher firearm policies would subsequently reduce the number of firearms in the streets and thus lower the probability of disasters like the Columbine and Sandy Hook school tragedies. However in similar fashion, the rise in awareness for the interest group advocating the passionate defense of the American’s right to bear arms, known as the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association), has captivated the American political scene and continues to heavily derail this theory by proclaiming their own.…
