Graduation Speech : College And Pursuing An Exercise Science Degree
First of all, I would like to sincerely thank you for a great semester thus far. I have learned an invaluable amount of knowledge on not just percussion, but community, studio vibe, large ensemble playing, and communication between other members of an ensemble while playing.
I regret to inform you that I will be permanently leaving the University of Michigan after this Fall 2015 Semester. I will transferring to Hope College and pursuing an Exercise Science Degree, with Pre-Physical therapy tract, and a minor in Business Management. There were so many layers of thought that went into my consideration on whether I should stay or leave this incredible institution, so please know this was a slow, thought-out process. I went to many counseling sessions, prayed, discerned, talked countless hours with my parents, talked to a lot of close friends, and weighed the pros and cons on whether I should stay or leave. Please note that this decision was purely based on whether or not I wanted to pursue music and go down the musician path for the rest of my life. Nothing weird happened between me or other studio members, nothing went awry in my classes, nor did the hard work needed to succeed here make me feel like leaving the University of Michigan. Ultimately, I strongly feel that music is not the path I should take in my life in order for me to fulfill my life long dreams and aspirations.
Let me explain:
I have a lot of other interests…
