A study from 2015 states about 49% of high school students feel a great deal of stress on a daily basis (Ossola, 2015). For seniors, the stress may feel higher, because they may feel overwhelmed by the thought of college around the corner (Nelson, 2014). If students start preparing for college their freshman year, this could reduce the stress. There are many benefits to prepare for college early on in high school (5 Benefits of Early College Programs in High School, 2017). College-bound is a term used to describe students going or intending college. Being college-bound helps students improve their readiness for college. There are many steps and activities students can do to become college bound. Some things to research are funding for college, …show more content…
To prepare for college, students should take challenging courses throughout their high school career, according to Rinker (2017). They should do this because colleges want to know if you took the most challenging classes your school offered (Johnson, 2005). Rinker (2017) recommends keeping a list of accomplishments, and awards to use for preparing a future resume. The Federal Student Aid (2018) says stay involved in high school activities and seek leadership roles, through all years of high school. The Federal Student Aid (2018) suggest taking the PSAT in 10th grade. Juniors should research funding for college (Rinker, 2017). The research would include scholarships, grants, and loans. The Federal Student Aid (2018) wants seniors to register for and take the standardized test required to apply for the desired college. When students are in their sophomore year of high school, they should take the PSAT. It is also suggested to research college majors. Sophomores should inform themselves on choosing a college. Wulick (2015) explains that junior year is the most important year of high school. Students have many things to do that year. Juniors should research college funding. They should also narrow down their college lists. During students' junior year they should ask for information and application for admissions. In the last year of high school, students should take the standardized tests required for their desired college. Its recommended that students should work hard all the way, until graduation. Seniors should start applying to colleges. They should also check colleges have their required documents. Seniors should also visit their future schools. Having a checklist helps students be ready for their new college
