Birthdays are always special. Whether celebrated or not, one’s birthday will forever be a reminder of life and growth. I always like to celebrate my special day with friends and family. Cliché, I know. Which is why for my 18th birthday I decided to get risky. Thrill rides and adventures have always fed my soul, but going to an amusement park seemed overplayed. I wanted to do something new and exciting. Skydiving seemed like the perfect avenue for what my inner thrill-junkie craved. It was March 27, 2014. I would say that I woke up like my seven-year-old self on Christmas, but I probably didn’t sleep that night. I knew this day would be one of the biggest days of my life. Every emotion was racing through my mind as the plane came to halt. I was laughing, yet felt terrified as my mom stood up. All eyes were on her. I was holding on to my seat in fear and anticipation. Before I even had time to process what was about to happen, my mom and her instructor were gone like the wind. I remember feeling so proud of her. I can now say that my 41-year-old mother skydived. Ever since I was little I have been very adventurous and open-minded to trying new things. I was always excited to have the opportunity to make new memories that would last a lifetime. I went to Sixflags Over Texas quite a bit as a child, since it was only thirty minutes from my house. Every time I made my way toward the Superman I would stop and admire the people on the ride known as Dive Bomber Alley. A ride that slowly brings you up to a one hundred and fifty foot arch before it drops you with nothing but the sky to catch your fall.…

I woke with a start at the obnoxious noise coming from my alarm. It was 9:00 a.m. on a Thursday, in the middle of the summer. Today, I was going to my favorite place in the world: the Tulsa State Fair. I dragged myself down the creaking stairs and into the family room, where I turned on the television. I then ate a bowl of cocoa puffs and went back upstairs to prepare myself for the day.…

Growing up in Southern California we spent most of our summers at Lake Havasu and Parker. For as long as I can remember, getting to spend my summers on the lake with my close friends and family was what got me through the school year, knowing that for a full month I would have no cares in the world except for what adventures lay ahead of us. As the school year came to an end, all we could think about was getting to the lake to start our last summer together before we all ventured off in separate directions. Starting to pack and load up the RV was all I could think about for days, seeing as this was the last summer we would all spend together.…

That morning I couldn’t think of anything besides the day that laid ahead. Although I was excited I still dreaded leaving the comfort of my warm bed. After I realized it was already 10:20, I shot out of bed and scurried to the shower so I wouldn’t be late. It might’ve been the fastest shower i’d ever taken. Breakfast was the last thing on my mind, even though I knew that I should eat.…
