That morning I couldn’t think of anything besides the day that laid ahead. Although I was excited I still dreaded leaving the comfort of my warm bed. After I realized it was already 10:20, I shot out of bed and scurried to the shower so I wouldn’t be late. It might’ve been the fastest shower i’d ever taken. Breakfast was the last thing on my mind, even though I knew that I should eat. Instead I ran back upstairs to brush my teeth in preparation of coruso, because that was the one thing that must be done. Finally I was out the door, racing to the school so I wouldn’t miss the bus to my first competition of senior year. When I pulled up the rest of the band was already lining up to get on their assigned busses. Luckily though my friends were …show more content…
I eventually made my way off the bus to find that I was the only one there. After a few moments of contemplating where they must have gone I heard my band, so I picked up my trumpet and headed over to join them all in warm up before our preliminary round. Once I got there warm up was already coming to an end. We only got the chance to do breathing exercises then run through our show¬once. After we finished our warm up we got in our two’s and walked to the gate to begin our preliminary round. As we walked on the field I felt the sun beating down on me, as the sweat rolled down my face causing my shako to slide. Once in opening set I felt my nerves starting to kick in, seeing this is my last first competition. “West Salem High School¬ is your band ready?” the announcer says almost delightedly over the intercom, and with that the drum majors raised their hands and the show begun. The show finally came to an end but that was not the end of our preliminary round, no, we still had another thirty¬five minutes in that dreadful heat. This competition was unlike any other I had ever …show more content…
As we walked off the field, after the clinic concluded I was satisfied with our performance, especially my solo. I was also relieved to finally get to get out of my clothes that were soaked with sweat. After every preliminary round we got free time to watch other marching bands, eat and most importantly spend time with each other. I chose to spend my time, as always, with my girlfriend. She bought us food to eat while watching the other marching bands. In the stands we sat with the rest of my section, watching the other bands perform their shows. As the end of our break neared it was time to get into full uniform. This time we got a full warm up¬ thank goodness. As we got in our two’s once again, this time in full uniform, I no longer felt the nerves as I did earlier in the day. The announcer was not needed this time, although he still spoke, I knew our band was ready. Finals competition came to an end and with that last run I felt the excitement start racing through my veins. I walked off the field standing tall and proud knowing that we had it in the bag, knowing that I nailed my solo, knowing that it was our

September 23, 2014.I stood on the football field trembling between two of my fellow band members as the announcer proclaimed “Is the Parkway South band ready to perform?” As I stood there on the field at my first marching band competition, despite every runthrough, practice, set, and note we had gone over I was still nervous and I still didn’t see the point. I moved my feet along to the multitude of drill sets we had learned, I played the notes as we had practiced, but I still wasn’t engaged in the performance. When we finished I was more relieved to be off the field and have finally finished our show than I was proud or concerned of our band’s, or my own performance. However during my years in band, set by set, beat by beat, note by note, two years later at our last competition I walked off the field swelling with pride at what was the climax of both our band’s three months of dedication and hard work and my personal accomplishment and development as a…

Growing up we are all told that lying is bad, no parent has ever taught a child that lying was something they should be doing. Personally my parents had always been very strict on lying and if I had been caught in the act it was game over. From when I was able to comprehend what lying was and even today I try and be as honest as I can. However this day in particular, I made an exception that I would come to regret. It was a blazing hot May day in the northwest suburb of Chicago, otherwise known as Barrington, Illinois.…

Feelings of sadness and anxiety filled my heart and mind because I knew this was our final tournament, as we threw on our uniforms I knew that all the hard work that my peers and I have put on the field and off have prepared us for this moment. “La Puente High School” the announcer stated “you are now entering championship territory, the judges are ready”. Essay “Beep”, “Beep”,”Beep”, It was 8:30 A.M, crawling out of bed after another sleepless friday night, I finally managed to shove a smoothie down my throat and get my mind mentally ready for yet another gruelling 4 hour practice. My morning routine before every practice consisted of my kinetic stretching and rolling out my muscles, along with my main playlist, “Pump up” before the 30 min drive out to calabasas. This was the week of my High School Varsity Lacrosse team’s championship, and was easily one of the most anxious times of my life in my entire sports career. Not only were we nearing finals for my school but, being captain of defense, I had an enormous role to play in helping my teammates along with myself.…
