Fast Food Advertisement Analysis

The food and beverage industries spend billions of dollars every year on advertisement! Where is all this money going? Who exactly are these advertisements targeting? Most of us don’t really find it unusual for kids as young as two years old to recognize McDonalds or for kids a little older than that to cry out for McDonalds Happy Meals when they’re hungry. These are simply every occurrences in our society. Fast food advertisements target everyone, but they specifically target children and teen youth. Fast food advertisements target children in order to create brand loyalty at a young age. The goal of many of these fast food companies is branding. Branding is encouraging the recognition and ability to differentiate particular products and logos (Thomas N. Robinson). This is important because it creates a brand loyalty within the children and this will influence their future food purchasing behavior. A classic commercial targeting men would be the Carl’s Jr commercials, which have a tiny beautiful fit women eating a giant meat filled burger with the juices and ketchup oozing out of it as she takes a bite. This associates two of men’s favorite things lots of food and women with Carl’s Jr. This commercial promotes the idea that if you eat Carl’s Jr you might end up with a girl such as the ones in the commercials. The McDonalds commercials seem to associate happiness with McDonalds. The commercials are often times of a happy family camping or doing some type of family activity and then finishing there day or activity with a meal at McDonalds. This creates the thought that if we eat at McDonalds we are more likely to be a happy family. There are many more examples, but the point is fast food advertisements associate positive thing with their product to promote consumer
