Childhood obesity in the United States considered as a major health issue in the last decades. “Compared with 1973 to 1974, the proportion of children 5 to 17 years of age who were obese was 5 times higher in 2008 to 2009. 23.9 million children ages 2 to 19 are overweight or obese.(Overweight & Obesity) children are at extreme risk of health problems because of many social and environmental factors. Obesity depends on US children’s physical activity and eating habits. Also parents financial status and time managing cause many US families to minimize spending money on these factors childhood obesity in the United States has become epidemic.

Neighborhoods do not have a lot of open spaces for physical excersies, plus more violence on streets which makes parents keep their children at home playing video, and computer games. All of these factors contribute imensliy to the increase of child obesity in America. Obesity icreases as technology increases. In addition, “neighborhoods across the United Statees foster increased dependence on cars through insufficient public transportation and fewer sidewalks, trails, parks, and paths for walking and biking” (Wieting). So the nation needs more of parks and sidewalks. American children spend a quite amount of time using various media. What does media do? Advertise. No, not even advertise; they brainwash children! “Children are exposed to an estimated 10 000 advertisements for food per year, 95% of which are for fast foods, candy, sugared cereal and soft drinks”(Obesity Reviews from Yale University). All of these comercials are made for a reason; all of them cost a lot of money, but people don’t even assume how much more these advertisements, advertisers make affect their children. But how does media grab children’s attention so easily? There is an answer: adveritsing companies use cartoon characters and superheroes. Whose child would not eat Superman chips or Cinderalls candy? Little children do not understand how persuasive these advertisements intend to be; they do not see how these advertisements affect their eating habits. Therefore, parents should be aware of what their children are watching. If children are more limited on watching these high-calorie commercials, they would not be as tempted to want a certain food
