As Jennifer Harris in her article titled, “The Opportunity to Educate Parents about Junk Food Marketing” published by Psychology Today, breaks down the main reason why kids develop poor eating habits and obesity later in life. Harris states that food marketing is what the food industry uses to persuade children and teens to foods that are high in calories, sugar, and fat. She then points out that food marketing all begins with TV commercials in which she states that, “The food industry spends $1.8 billion per year on marketing specifically aimed at children and teens and about one-third of that is TV advertising” (Harris). The author then talks about the possibilities to protect the children from the life-threatening effects of food marketing is to reduce their exposure to TV commercials and especially radio commercials. As Craig Good in his article titled, “Is this food healthy?” published by Quora breaks down how there is no such thing as junk food to his audiences. Good states that there is no such thing as junk food and to just eat whatever you want. He then points out that there are no such things as organic or GMO foods and you need not worry about your nutrition. The author says that “Your body evolved in scarcity and is perfectly capable of dealing with nutrients coming in at varying rate” (Good). This article would argue that junk food is not the leading cause of obesity and that you need to just eat a little of everything.
