On September 11, 2001 a group named al-Qaeda sent four airliners to the United States carrying suicide attacks. We didn’t expect any attacks at the time or knew there would be any soon that day, it was all a surprise. Two of the planes flew all the way to New York City and crashed into the towers known as the twin towers, the third plane hit the Pentagon just outside of Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. These crashes resulted to be an extensive death and destruction. Buildings were destroyed even with people inside. Hundreds of people died this day. This attack was a triggered a major U.S initiative to combat terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush. We didn’t know what made them attack

We had ongoing wars too. Less than a month after the attack of 9/11 the U.S. sent troops to invade Afghanistan in an attempt to dismantle al-Qaeda, the terrorist group that was claimed to be responsible for the attacks, it was also planned to remove the Taliban government. Two years later, in March 2003, the U.S. decided to send troops to Iraq to invade. We deposed President Saddam Hussein too. Budgets for defense-related agencies sky-rocketed. They went from $16 billion in 2002 to more than $43 billion in 2011. According to U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, roughly 3.1 million Americans entered military service between 2001 and 2011, and nearly 2 million were deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq. In that time, more than 6,000 American troops have been killed, and roughly 44,000 wounded. We invaded them because they were suspects of the attacks that were done on September 11, 2001. The United States has changed in so many ways since the horrible attack happened. That was a tragic day that many people will never forget. So many died and so many lost their family. Many people were injured and fighting for their lives. Up until this day we still pray for those who died on September 11,
