Introduction The United States workforce has become more ethnically diverse. Globalization and a growing number of ethnic groups have naturally reflected on the labor force. While it may be apparent that some industries, population densities, and geographic localities are more diverse than others, there is trending in all organizations to become more diverse. Businesses are now implementing training and ethnic diversity management programs to support the variance in work input by people of differing cultural backgrounds (Aigner, 2014). As the multicultural work force has developed, teams within these organizations have also become diverse. Individuals are more likely to work with people who are demographically different in terms of ethnic background (Kapoor, 2011). An ethnically diverse team is common and unavoidable in most cases. The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of ethnic diversity on business teams through contribution and performance. It will also describe how individuals associate with ethnicity in an already diverse culture and the complications that arise in a diverse environment.

There will be complications and challenges when combining ethnic groups together in common teams. To overcome these problems, it is recommended that businesses invest in an ethnic diversity management practice to train and support employees dealing with complications that occur on ethnically diverse teams (Aigner, 2014). Companies that invest in an ethnic diversity management practice will benefit from higher retention, increased productivity, and greater contribution from its employees (Aigner, 2014).
