Effective communication is key to success. The ability to communicate effectively is essential in all aspects of business. Oral and written communication skills are skills you will use for the rest of your life. Improving on these skills will positively impact your career and relationships in the work environment. Effective communication is vital to everyone in an organization, from the highest ranks of corporate to the new college intern. An organization whose employees communicate effectively experience fewer misunderstandings and are able to be more productive.
As an Emergency Communications Specialist, I believe communication is about more than just exchanging information with a caller requesting emergency service. It is about understanding the concerns and intentions of the caller so I can better provide the appropriate response. I must be able to convey a message so that it is received and understood by the caller in exactly the way I intended.
