“Professional growth requires a leader to gain skills outside of his or her specific background.” (Madden, n.d.) Of equal importance, seeking out a mentor in the special education field proves to enhance learning and growth for someone seeking higher education. I chose to further my education when the previous teacher of the classroom announced her retirement. Before her retirement, the daily dealing of the classroom she took care of. Presently, both the classroom teacher and myself are pursuing degrees specializing in special education.
