Domestic Abuse
Do you ever think about how many people become domestic abuse victims each day? Everyday, people all over the world are becoming victims of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse is more of a social problem today because the rates of abuse are increasing. Victims today are being abused by their spouse, family members, or someone from a previous relationship. Domestic abuse is a social problem because victims are suffering from spousal abuse, severe injuries and in some cases, murder.
Victims are suffering from spousal abuse.
Victims who suffer from spousal abuse tend to ignore and deny the problem. Victims ignore the problem because, they think it will go away, or they don’t want to believe that it is a problem. She may fear being seen as a "failure" as a wife and mother, or worse yet, she may believe she "deserves"" the mistreatment. (“Spouse Partner Abuse Information”). Also, victims may lack in areas such as self esteem and confidence. A battered woman’s lack of positive self-esteem may keep her from telling anyone about her abuse. Remember, abusers are very good at controlling and manipulating their victims. People who have been emotionally abused or battered are depressed, drained, scared, ashamed, and confused. They need help to get out, yet they’ve often been isolated from their family and friends. By picking up on the warning signs and offering support, you can help them escape an abusive situation and begin healing. (“Domestic Violence and Abuse”).…
