Part B: Problem Analysis: Why is this Bill Policy important? Why should the Mayor care?

The VAWA attempts to tackle many social problems. Domestic violence is not only a threat to the health and rights of women, but a variety of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive-functioning problems among children were found to be correlated with exposure to domestic violence. The legislation is challenging gendered inequality in the form of men’s violence against women in intimate relationships. Alcohol as well as other abused substances can provoke violent behavior. America can take the effort to educate its citizens about mutual respect in which both partners are treated equally. Jealousy is one of the leading causes of domestic violence, so we can begin by teaching individuals to support each other’s goals, decisions, and opinions. Being able to feel safe, comfortable, and at ease when expressing one's feelings to his or her partner is important. America has some of the best social workers, psychologist, and therapist that could lead workshops and classes that promote peace and understanding within intimate relationships (Antle, …show more content…
(Refer to image 2) Many republicans did not agree with the Act because they do not want tribal courts to have any say about non-native men on Native American lands (Eichelberger , 2014). The Obama administration made it clear that they will always be in favor of the VAWA. Women have formed together creating a groups called the W.A.V.E--Women against VAWA Excess. These women feel as though the ACT weakens Families and turns each gender group against eachother. W.A.V.E argues that this act gives women the opportunity to commit fraud by lying about altercations, but the VAWA did not include repercussions for those who misuses the law. They believe that some reports will be fraudulent, and will result in many men going to jail, losing their families, and even their jobs. It is true that when a man commits an act of domestic abuse, the mainstream media exploits the topic, but when women commit acts it is rarely heard of. The murder of California Bell Gardens mayor is not trending on social media. Being as though the VAWA was recently reauthorized I doubt that there was anyone who were not aware of the

symbolizes a continual and progressive standpoint towards the women in this country, and not just one specific group of women but extends this equally to all. VAWA 2013 includes provisions for groups of women who had not been mentioned previously. Because of VAWA 2013, Indian tribes are now able to, “exercise their sovereign power to investigate, prosecute, convict, and sentence both Indians and non-Indians who assault Indian spouses or dating partners” (United States Department of Justice). This type of inclusion underpins the notion of equality by conveying that all women regardless of race, culture, tribes, have an equal right to safety. Additionally, VAWA 2013 makes a provision for women who are immigrants and experiencing abuse form a…

Even when faced with the opposing viewpoints, it is impossible to deny the benefits of drug treatment rather than imprisonment. Although prison overcrowding does not necessarily constitute cruel and unusual punishment, prisoners still face significant problems. Low-level offenders (like drug users) face serious consequences that do not necessarily suit their crimes, and the more crowded prisons are, the more violent they become. Imprisonment should help prisoners recover and reform, but most prisons in America do little to nothing for the prisoners. Instead, prisoners face harsh punishment, such as double-celling, which is housing two prisoners in a cell meant for one.…

It includes physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse” (NCADV, 2007). The purpose of our group is to help women who have experienced domestic violence build up their self-esteem, confidence, and teach them self-love to help their overall well-being and life. We plan to educate these women on the cycle of violence,…

During the court hearings and revisions, men dominated the proceedings and they attempted to silence the women who were some of the main contributors of the legislation. Gleason discussed, that the battle over VAWA was due to men making arguments that made sense to men, but ignored the provisions in which women provided to help acquire the way as insiders and outsiders of the political process and who would also benefit from the law (Gleason, 2001, p. 2). Women are better informants of issues that concern women, but unfortunately, it is not always seen that way. Gleason made a profound statement about the passing of VAWA, she stated, "the enactment of VAWA is a story of perseverance, timing and the rise of women 's power both in and out of government to make their voices heard" (Gleason, 2001 p. 3).…

Abstract Interviews were conducted using 3 semi-structured focus groups consisting of adolescent black males and females aged 14 to 20. Participants were determined to be cognizant enough to verbally translate his or her experiences into words of incidences of domestic violence experienced in each participant’s home atmosphere and in intimate relationships. The research shows how the influence of exposure to violence at home and in relationships could be linked to domestic violence transferring from generation to generation. Intergenerational transmission of violence is also supported by the participants’ expression of anger and aggression to those he or she loves, due to being abused by those that were once looked up to and revered, such as…

Domestic Violence & Gender Over the past four decades we have had more knowledge and facts about domestic violence. At the same time, substantial controversy has been generated over who is the perpetrator in the relationship and who are the victims of domestic violence. Feminist advocates and practitioners have always identified women as the targets and victims of abuse, with male partners and former partners forming the large majority of perpetrators. However, increasingly there have been counterclaims regarding gender symmetry in domestic violence (Hester, 2009).…

The term “domestic or family violence” refers to the intimate context within which one partner is abused by another, involving both men and women as victims (Holt, S., Buckley, H., & Whelan, S. (p. 798, 2008). Therefore, domestic violence occurs in all economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds of every society of the world. In Canada, 546, 000 men suffer from domestic violence; that equates to 6% of the male population (Family Violence). The number of women who are victimized through intimate violence total around 653, 000; that equates to 7% of the female population (Family Violence). The amount of abuse being directed towards men is essentially the same amount that is directed towards women.…
