Family abuse is a growing problem with women in the US. Many are still not sure how to identify or resolve this issue. Abuse may begin with a current or past relationship in which the partner is violent and tries controlling resulting in victims living an abusive relationship. There are multiple ways of abuse physical, verbal, mental, sexual, and financial. Many believe they are not in a abusive relationship causing it to be an even greater problem. Many believe that the only way of abuse is physical- when and if a partner lays .hand on the victim. However, there are many types of abuse that one can be a victim of as previously mentioned. Once the abuse starts it typically will only get worse over time. It may begin with a simple slap or …show more content…
There are approximately 20 people per minute who are physically abused by their partner which is over 10 million victims. Every day there are three women killed by former or current partner. One in every four women are victims of “severe” violence in their lifetime. One in three women are victims of some kind of abuse and one in seven have been stalked to the point of not feeling safe. Statistics show that women between 18- 24 years old are at higher risk. One in fifteen children have been exposed to violence and 90% are witnesses to the violence (Huffington Post). They fear for their lives so prefer to live under the abuser. There are so many organizations that are there to help shelter, feed and take care of the victims. On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide, but how many of them are saved from the abusive relationship.
