When my dad was teenager his father left home and abandoned him, his mother, his brother, and sister. This forced my dad to grow up quickly and because he was the older brother he had to take on the role of man of the house. My family life is the complete opposite this, my parents are still very happily married and I have a really strong relationship with parents and siblings. The reason I have been blessed with this family situation is because my dad vowed to never be like his father and always provide love and support to his own family. My dad’s actions have always inspired me to want to give back and support my community. Over this past semester I have been volunteering at Meyers Middle School with the Vegetable Project. The Vegetable Project is an after school program that exposes students to gardening and harvesting vegetables. Once the vegetables are harvest they get to cook them and by the looks on their faces it’s easy to tell how proud they are of their work. This was a rewarding experience for me because while working with the students a felt that I was able to develop better ways to communicate with children that will carry over into the dental field. I became more patient and empathetic as the program progress when catering to the needs of the students. I feel that the lesson that I have learned in my undergraduate studies and while
