Personal Narrative: My Loving Christian Family

Improved Essays
I was raised in a loving Christian family that has contributed to my personal values of acceptance, caring, and understanding. My parents continue to be great role models in my life and show me what it means to be a servant leader to the community. My father has been a high school football coach my whole life. As a child in south Florida, I watched my father extend his hand to many young Haitian refugees fleeing an oppressive government. Some of the Haitian boys joined the football team and became a part of a family that was missing as a result of their travels and situation. They became my brothers and many of them did not have stable homes or even a home at all. Given the need my parents would house them while they tried to figure out housing arrangements. Many of them went on to receive football scholarships, giving them the funds they needed to attend college. Due to my lack of age I was unaware of the Haitians hardships, but I have continued to be impacted by the compassion my parents showed them. …show more content…
Whether it be teaching young dancers at my ballet studio, tutoring at the Boys and Girls Club, or giving out water during a football practice, I find joy in giving back to the community. Few things in life are more precious than the ability to harvest a passion in another person. You do not have to be the most talented person in your field, but you must have the desire to make an impact. I turn my passions into a ministry and it is there that I am able to have my greatest successes.
I have been blessed with numerous opportunities to be successful in and out of the classroom. I feel that is my calling to use my abilities to create a better society for future generations. Not everyone has a role model that will inspire them and help them reach their potential. Because I saw the lives that were changed through my parents acts of kindness,I too want to make a

Over the past years I have had the amazing opportunity to work with my church, First Baptist Church of Bascom. On the second Wednesday of every month I am able to help prepare and serve meals with my church. I love being able to participate in this event. It is the one time in the month that people in our community gather together and spend time together as a family. Being able to help families and seeing everyone have a home cooked meal at least once a month makes my heart warm.…

People can use what they are passionate about to help the community around them as well as the people within them. I have a passion to help other by going on mission trips, whether they be large or small they both impact in great ways. I have attended four to five missions trips over the last four years and each one is a different experience. You never know who you will encounter, whose life you could change, what the effect of your work could do to the community or how people will react when we are there. With each trip the work and community are always different.…

Being born into a Jewish family in Mexico, religion was constantly present through my childhood. I went to a Kosher, Jewish school from Pre-K to second grade, where Hebrew and Jewish history were as an integral part of school as math and science. Although my family is not orthodox, we did celebrate all of the Jewish holidays from Hanukkah to Tish’a B’Av. It was only when me, my parents, and my sister moved to Florida, that I left the tight knit Jewish community that I had been a part of for my entire life. I began attending an irreligious school where I was no longer surrounded by people like me; on the contrary, I was one of only few Jewish kids in my classes.…

Peer Evaluation This is a unique assignment because I am the only student in my close, a class I am honored was created to help build a new program for the next generation of teachers. From the correspondences with students in a similar class, I think that we are all facing the same problem as the peers in my school building, we all want to be the person to change the world we live in. I never wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer or even a president, I always wanted to be a teacher. I didn’t know that would be my role as a child…

Growing up in a missionary family, we did not have the luxury of name brand clothes and most of the time we did not get new clothes; only hand-me-downs, which we received from missionary closets at churches we visited across the country. Missionary closets are stocked with items similar to that of garage sale, like stationary, school supplies, bath towels, toiletry items, kitchen items, clothes, shoes and much more. However, unlike a garage sale, there is no payment upon leaving. Because this was normal for our family, I had no idea the stigma that some of society puts on people who buy or, in our case, are given used items. In addition, I was also homeschooled, which limited outside influences that would make me think shopping in mission’s closets was anything but normal.…

    1. What is your definition of “citizenship” and what you consider to be your “actual” responsibilities as a citizen? My definition of citizenship is when someone loves, respects, shares common knowledge of American culture and its history. I believe that all people should be able to have citizenship of the country they were born in; and for those that want to gain citizenship should be required to pass a citizenship exam, along with current American citizens.…

I have spent my life dedicating my energies to helping others. As a teenager and young adult, I spent most of my volunteering through my church with Family Promise, at our local food banks, and participating in a mission trip to help after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. These service opportunities allowed me to help those who were less fortunate than I, in terms of material goods and challenged some preconceived ideas of poverty which I had believed up until that point. I choose to be involved in communities because I believe it is a responsibility of us all to help others in need and be a support system to our fellow humans. That may sound cliche but I have always believed that working for each other build relationships and connections…

I distinctly remember one church conflict that took a strange turn. I must add, at the time of this conflict - as a new, emergent, eager, and energetic ministry leader, this particular encounter had me rethinking my active involvement in church all together. I became scarred from this experience. The conflict took place about four to five years ago, where a power struggle emerged in the midst of a committee meeting. Mr. Leo Richardson, a disgruntled leader of the church, upset by a vote that ended his term as leader of Francis Burns United Methodist Church (FBUMC)…

As a Christian, one usually wrestles with questions about how one understands when to act, react, decide and what to consider right in crucial circumstances. I would claim that as one born into a Christian family, it becomes easy to get used to witnessing the ritualistic style of practicing Christianity and living out one’s faith as the Body of Christ. However, considering the example of one who might have not been born into a Christian family, rather identified him or herself with another non- Abrahamic religion and converted to Christianity, it is probable that he or she might have a struggle getting accustomed to the significance of worship, rituals, scripture reading and its interpretation and other practices like prayer, fasting and meditation.…

The people that I chose to interview were Todd Fetters, Paul Fetters, Jacob Johnson, Nick Miller and Joni Schmalzried. The reason why I chose these people is because they are people that I respect who have had roles of leadership in various settings in ministry. Some have worked as youth pastors, others have taught ministry classes, and others have pastored at churches. But there is one person that I interviewed who is not a leader in Christian ministry but the way that they have impacted my life lead me into ministry. I found that it was hard for my interviewees to define leadership and rather they wanted to give characteristics or qualities of leaders, which I think is just as beneficial.…

At first, I disliked the testimony of my life. I thought my life was boring; that the only inspiring testimonies were the ones where somebody went from being at rock bottom to being on fire for Christ. I vividly remember the night my freshman year of college when I had boldly beseeched God to do something dramatic and even terrible to my life, to break me down so that it would be obvious that He was the one who was building me back up. Little did I know that God can use anybody and everybody for his glory, no matter what their story is like. I grew up on a dairy farm outside of Chambers, Nebraska.…
