Driving is a very dangerous activity on its own because you are moving a very heavy chunk of metal, going up to 80 MPH, in very close proximity to other cars who are doing the same thing. When you add in technology like phones, radios, and even other people, it makes driving even more dangerous. There are hundreds of car crashes a day. Any way to reduce the risk from distracted driving is a positive one. So I agree with the law it should be illegal to used a hand held phone while driving. If you are talking on the phone, than means that one of your hands is on the wheel, and the other is holding the phone up to your ear. A driver with only one hand of the wheel has much less control of the car. If the driver needs to turn …show more content…
That would make it even harder to perform a turn since they have to make the maneuver one handed, distracted from other cars or pedestrians. Both distraction and limited wheel movements come together for a dangerous combination, that should be illegal by law. In order to make a phone call it is necessary to dial the number or find the contact that you want to reach. There are many different ways and times that a driver could dial a phone. It could be done by a passenger, when pulled over, or stopped at a red light. In these ways, the dialing is not a danger distracting the driver. As well as when someone else calls you there is no dialing involved. But that does not mean that a large portion of people dialing a phone don't do it by them selves while in a moving vehicle. If a driver is dialing while they are driving, then they are looking down at their phone for a couple seconds when they should be looking at the road. Everyone already knows that distracted driving is very risky, but Virginia Tech proved just how risky it can be. They used radars, sensors, and cameras to collect data from 3,500 drivers over a three-year period and documented 1,600 crashes and 905 severe crashes. From observing video evidence they found that the most common distracted methods that led to a crash were using a cell phone, reading or writing, reaching for an object, using vehicle technology, driving while highly emotional, fatigue, and interacting with an adult or teen passenger. Upon further examination, it was discovered that 68% of the severe crashes involved some type of observable distraction. Strangely, things that used to be significant in causing crashes, like putting…

There were 3,154 people killed in a motor vehicle involving distracted drivers in 2013. Why would you want to add on to the killing? One of these killings could be one of your loved ones and their life could have been saved if the people around them on the road cared enough about their life and people around them. Every time you get behind a wheel of any vehicle you should have your full attention on the road and not somewhere else. I believe that the only way for people to get undistracted while driving is: by educating drivers and higher penalty for distractive driving.…
