When I think of a leader I always try to think of someone I would aspire to be. That person in

Regards to healthcare would have to be my Stepmother Dr. Christine Mckimmie. We all view leaders we would want to be like for different reasons. There is not one person I feel I could idolize in every way, but idolize my stepmother for her ability to apply her self in educational situations. I came from a family where no one had went to college so her presence and insight was quite different aspect for me to have around since we were considered a blue collar family. When asked how she became a leader this was something that developed over time. She explains in terms of application to the healthcare that “It was not done over time especially in the medical field there is always someone else you are learning from.” From this question we gathered that leadership is a life learning process, which requires experience, education, and time to achieve. Dr.Mckimmie had said “There were many different styles of leadership I have seen, but all great leadership styles stem from the basis of the respect from employee to the supervisor and vice versa.” I had a agreed with this as well reflecting on my leaders that they had all had in-depth experience and knowledge; as well as shown a mutual respect and understanding to my needs as I had for theirs. With that relationship in place it made it quite easy to get work done since we were both working towards the same goals with a mutual

Before delving further into leadership and management theories and styles it is good to understand the difference between a manager and a leader. Bennis and Nanus (1985, p221) state that ‘managers are people who do things right and leaders are people that do the right thing.’ Yukl (2002, p7) goes on to suggest that leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives. However, Stodgill (1974:7) powerfully stated that ‘there are as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have tried to define it.’ Although there are varying definitions to leadership…

Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

My first leadership experience came from being a voluntary work as a life- and management skills trainer, where I had to deal with different background, minds and studies trainees, to be the leader of my own session, the thing that let me build my communication, discussion and presentation skills. After that I started working as assistant supervisor in a psychological support centre for the international medical corps, where I had the chance to deal with very professional and creative people, the hardest thing was being accepted as the youngest member of the team and to be known as a leader , but being in this atmosphere…

Everyone has someone they look up to, since they were a child maybe and up to this day. Just a few days ago I was watching a movie about James Braddock, and now he is one of the main people I look up to. Though not all leaders are champions, they are both courageous and passionate about what they are trying to accomplish James J. Braddock was one of the many people trying to strive for accomplishment during the Great Depression. Throughout my lifespan most of my leadership was silent, being a model student and taking lead in projects. Above it all, consistently I developed and sustained strong connections with individuals without much effort. My relationship buildings skills were obscured and I often wonder why individuals easily confined in me and respected my advice.…

A normal person might strive to be average, to be the okay for the moment and never truly use their full potential. For a normal person, being in a leadership position can sometimes be too hard, complicated, and stressful if they are not dedicated or prepared. Each of these factors can discourage many people, people who have the potential but not the training or motivation to hold a position of leadership. According to Peter Northouse (2015), this leadership style involves communication with the followers and leader, not a linear or one way event but an interactive event (Northouse, 2015, p. 6). This type of leadership engages everyone and makes followers feel valued, and as if they can communicate any issues that may arise. In relationship leadership, the leader is an advocate for making the work place pleasant, treating others with respect and dignity, as well as building camaraderie and helping people get along. This leadership style is what I feel will help subordinate’s work together and become more productive, allowing each person to be accountable with less conflict. Although not all conflicts are bad, improvements have come about as a result of some conflicts which in turn are a good thing.…
