It was early September, so early that school hadn’t started yet. I received a text from a family friend, telling me he was on his way to come pick me up. Earlier in the week, I had a falling out with a friend, and I really needed someone to talk to. I texted TJ, asking if we could do something, to get my mind off of everything. He happily obliged and offered to take me to ice cream on Wednesday. When he pulled into the driveway, my heart leaped to my throat. I was finally going to have to come to terms with the fact that my best friend and I were fighting, and would have to relive it all again. I knew TJ was going to ask, and I got nervous. I sighed and hopped into the car, shaking those negative thoughts from my mind. As he pulled out of the driveway, he glanced at me and asked how I was. I took a shaky breath and whispered “Just fine”. He sighed and told me he had spoken to some of my friends after a football workout on Monday, the day after I reached out to him. “They didn 't see interested in talking about you”, he said, almost angry, “and I didn 't like that. So I yelled at them, told them to figure it out. No one hurts my little sister and gets away with it.” He grabbed my hand and just squeezed, giving me a sense of comfort. I knew I was going to be okay. Chewing the inside of my cheek, a nervous habit, my eyes searched the hallway corwd for TJ.
