Writing is a very important skill to have in order to be successful in school and the professional world. Almost 70 percent of employees are required to write in their jobs. Writing is very crucial when it comes to communicating, and being able to express yourself. These are all very significant skills that students need and employers look for, when they are looking at candidates to hire. So it is important for students to learn how to write effectively in elementary school; so they can keep on progressing in writing so they will be prepared for the future ahead. The students who do not attain sufficient writing skills will have limited options when it comes to employment. Students who don’t who lack proficient writing skills will struggle in school as well. So the topic I chose to concentrate on is creative writing in elementary school and how it affects students writing skills. Here we will look at how teachers from all over view creative writing. In most of our schools, teachers utilize writer’s workshop as an effective method of teaching creative writing to students. Allowing students to pick the topic that they will be writing about boosts student’s enjoyment. However students who wrote with writing prompts scored higher, but had a quicker decline of enjoyment than the kids that were able to choose their own topic to write about in the writing workshop.
