Respect for yourself and others I find to be very important. “Respect is a deeply held, positive feeling experienced when an individual recognizes traits of character, goodness or competence in oneself or others” (4) When working in a team setting ex: a salon, it is very important that each individual can hold respect, for one another, themselves, authority, as well as clients. Mutual respect between co workers, and client to stylist, will help give a positive atmosphere in the salon, and keep the business professional. Integrity and commitment are also part of the being professional. But each of these traits come with their struggles. On page 15 the textbook states, that to have integrity is to do the right thing even when it’s difficult. Can you stay out of the gossip when other aren’t? Can you hold true to yourself and your moral values? Do you know what type of atmosphere you’re comfortable with? All of these things are part of integrity that will serve you well in the professional industry. Another trait that will aid in becoming successful is commitment. Staying committed to something even when you want to give up or things aren't working out the best is something all employers look for. If you know how to push through, stay looking at the target and wanting to reach that end result, you will earn money, be able to hold a professional job, and build yourself to success. Chapter two is titled Personality Basics. Because salons are open to the public, this field will encounter, work with and for, people with many different personalities. Knowing how to take an educated guess about someone’s personality type, how to adapt and interact with each personality, and how to give that client a customized salon experience, will benefit every stylist. There are 2 main personality types: introvert and extrovert. Both personality types are valued and needed in a salon setting. The text states that “An introverted preference is especially suited for activities that involve planning, reflection, developing ideas and working alone or with a partner” (42). These types of people would fit well with using new technologies, tracking finances, planning and setting goals and analyzing. As a stylist, I think these people would work best with clients who come in to be pampered and for stressed-out clients. Since introverts tend to be more quiet, their attention to detail and mellowness would help create a better salon
