Audience: This paper, is particularly aimed towards adolescence, interested in becoming a part of the cosmetology community. From a career such as makeup artistry, or just to gain a new hobby. The rhetorical situation calls for an informal essay, as well as an informative essay, with the intention of persuading the audience to join this discourse community.

In the sense that it has the power to bring people closer together. I’ve bonded with countless strangers (even formed friendships) over makeup, for me the subject acts as an icebreaker, sometimes I’ll ask a stranger what kind of lipstick they’re wearing, or I’ll compliment their makeup. Additionally, what makes this discourse community special, is the fact that almost anyone that has the creativity to do makeup can, cosmetology is not limited to one single group of people. Since its origin makeup, has been known, as being a practice for women. Nowadays, there are a lot of men, who work as makeup artists, hair stylists, makeup enthusiasts etc. which goes to show that makeup, hairstyling, and other cosmetology related fields are not exclusive to women. Every gender, race, sexuality can participate in these fields. Social media, and the Internet are tremendous outlets for the cosmetology discourse community. There’s YouTube, Instagram, online forums, even online cosmetology schooling. Whatever kind of makeup you are into there’s a forum, or video tutorial etc. for you. This discourse community shaped my identity, as well as allowing me to find my identity. I use makeup to express my creativity, whether I’m using a bunch of different colors, or different styles of makeup, it is a reflection of the artistic side of me. When I’m without my makeup, I feel less confident, and I don’t feel like myself. Although small, my contribution to help shape this community has been through supporting other members of the online cosmetology community. Such as buying products members of the community create, along with giving them informative feedback of their product. I have also contributed to this community, by teaching other people the proper techniques used in makeup artistry, so they too can be a part of the community if they
