They see products that promise to rejuvenate dry, damaged hair; volumize limp, flat hair; straighten curly hair, and regenerate thinning hair. Initially, I thought cosmetology school was going to be easy, since my desire for it was so strong. They had a structured the program for us to learn something different each month and we would practice on a daily basis on another classmate or mannequins. We spent our first month learning basic cutting techniques so we could create the foundation of the hair to be styled. One of my favorite subjects was studying the background of color. I had always wanted to color my hair, but after my traumatizing experience using relaxers, I was hesitant to put anything on my hair at home without knowing how to protect my hair from damage. However, once I acquired more knowledge and experience from school, I felt confident to volunteer to be a hair model for a classmate for a hair color project. It also helped that our instructors would guide us in the correct direction if we needed help. Since attending GWA, I went from being scared to color my hair, to being known for changing my color often, even to pink and purple colored …show more content…
Having never been to New York, I was overjoyed with the chance to go to the city called the “Big Apple.” In addition, world-renowned hairstylists were there teaching courses in professional hairstylist, hair coloring, and haircutting. This trip was special for me not only because of the convention, but it happened a few days after my birthday and my mother and sister, wanted to attend. Instead of flying, we took the train to New York, which was a first for me. When we arrived at Union Station, I was in awe of the sight. The station was filled with moving about, trying to go from one city to another.
Walking into the convention center, I was amazed at the number of people in attendance. There were lines of people, crammed together near the entrance waiting to sign in and get their badges. By the middle of the day, my mother and sister were just as fascinated by the event as I

The way she described it while she was doing each action seemed so seamless and flowed perfectly as each 3 parts of hair intertwined and weaved in and out so graciously. As I began my hands-on approach for the first time, it seemed so natural to me and I was successful the first try.…
