Contemporary Issues Interview Paper : The Director Of The Career Leadership Academy
I interviewed Matt Augeri, who is the Director of the Career Leadership Academy at the University of Iowa. Matt obtained his bachelors degree from the University of Connecticut and his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. His master’s is in student affairs and he has worked in education since graduating. Matt is also a first year doctoral student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program. After graduating with his master’s, he received a job as an Academic Advisor at the University of Missouri. He returned to the University of Iowa when offered a position as the Assistant Director of the Career Leadership Academy. Matt’s primary job responsibility is working with the Career Leadership Academy courses and evaluating the curriculum from year to year. The interview started with a broad question that asked, “What do you believe to be the most critical issue effecting higher education today and why?” From this question we dived into issues involving state appropriations, public goods, diversity, and degree completion pressures. In this paper, I will discuss key points that Matt and I discussed during the interview, what I learned from the key points and how it will impact my future career.
