Technical Theatre Personal Statement

Over the past three years I have been able to study and learn more about Technical Theatre. I have always had a love for the arts, but I originally thought I would go into acting. When I was about nine years old my sister started her endeavor through High School. She got started in the Theatre department and instantly fell in love with the set building and designing. For the next three years I went to every single one of her shows from Aida to Scarlett Pimpernel. I began to discover that I was not the acting type and I tend to be shy. I still wanted to be a part of this great work I had grown up seeing, I longed for the arts and the magic it brought. We take the test so my Director, Mindy, could learn how to best teach us. I was going through a rough spot in my life, and I could’ve died that day and been happy, but this test changed everything. I learned that I was nurturing and the I loved people but also loved to be alone. I learned how to better work with those around me, and get my thoughts across to them. I started my very first show Urinetown. I was assigned to be on the costume crew, and my Head was Katie. She was the first person who taught me that I needed to stop caring what others thought and to just get my work done. I struggled to find the love I wanted to have for costumes, but I kept with it and learned many leadership skills. There were many times in this show that I was scared to mess up, and I learned the worst you will ever have to do is start over. I learned from my Director that in order to get anything done you have to know what needs to be done then attack it head
