During this clinical, I was on the second floor. This was my first time caring for a male patient at this hospital. Pain management and ambulation were both the priorities and goals for the shift. I learned that therapeutic communication is not just effective on the psych unit, but can also be very important on the floor. It was until I experienced the effects that I truly believed in this principle. My patient was able to meet goals by the end of the shift. It was amazing to see how much improvement had occurred just in the time that I was there. The patient's attitude and level of interaction with others got better as the shift went on.
