Leadership Model as a process for determining how a designated team leader can respond to a variety of work team oriented challenges. This case study concentrates on a newly formed information technology team for a major international corporation. The team is composed of
20 professionals; some of which have worked for the company for an extended time and others who recently joined the company by way of a merger. The team members are very competent in their respective areas of expertise. They are located in several different countries and have never worked together before. The team reports to Jim Towne.

Principled leadership has been described as kind of the “engine” for team’s effectiveness
which is influenced through four sets of processes: cognitive – the leader helps the team
understand the problem, motivational – the leader helps the team become cohesive and
capable by setting high performance standards and helping the group achieve them, affectively
– the leader helps the team handle stressful circumstances by providing clear goals,
assignments, and strategies, coordinating – the leader helps integrate the team’s activities by
matching members’ skills to roles, providing clear performance strategies, monitoring feedback,
and adapting to environmental changes. Jim and the team would greatly benefit from
incorporating these processes within the team structure.
Because of the physical proximity of the team members, Jim may also consider
conducting a survey to determine the specific situations and concerns the team members are
experiencing. The questionnaire could be considered the initial step towards addressing
