Steward Leadership Skills

The leading of a team or group is not a simple task but involves real life skills that take time, thinking and commitment. The role of leadership is an essential aspect of an organization since it can determine the difference between success and failure. “Although leaders are gifted in different ways, with different personalities and varying skill sets, all leaders can grow, become more skillful, and become more competent so that they can achieve greater effectiveness” (Ledlow & Coppola, 2014, pp. 10). At times, leadership may seem overwhelming and complicated, but by concentrating on specific fundamentals they will find that they can guide the team with the assurance and competence. There no one style of leadership, in fact, there are several distinctive leadership styles and every leader has their distinctive style. The techniques of an effective leader will differ based on the context, the individual concerns, and the desired outcome. This paper will discuss leadership styles, the comparison of leaders, and management, review the results of the leadership and team self-management assessment. Also, identify traits and strengths of leaders. Successful Leader The queen of talk shows, Oprah Winfrey, is a successful, transformational and charismatic leader. Oprah a television talk host, actress, author, producer and philanthropist that has inspired so many people throughout her career as being a positive role model, compassionate and loving, and a giving person. While growing up in Mississippi, she became a victim of sexual abuse by relatives and an associate of the family. Shortly after, Oprah relocates to Tennessee and lives with her father; Oprah accepted a scholarship to the University of Tennessee. After having several jobs in radio and television, she landed in Chicago, where she hosted a show. However, the show later developed into the Oprah Winfrey show. As a child, she encountered challenges, but she always strived to move forward and under no circumstances failure was an option. However, Ms. Winfrey is an influential leader that men, women, and children respect and adore. During the 2008 presidential election, Oprah endorsed Barack Obama “It is widely believed that her support was crucial to his winning the Democratic nomination -- and the Presidency itself” (American Academy of Achievement, 2015, para. 15). After taking the assessment tests the results identified strengths of a steward leadership styles. The stewards are dependable, trustworthy and supportive, and they provide a stabilizing and appeasing force for their staff. They respect rules, develop, and collaborate. They believe that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. They also, take care of those individuals who struggle. The traits that I can develop from Oprah comprise of a confidence person, persistence, and being an exceptional speaker. However, being an extraordinary woman as Oprah I believe that her traits are better than mind because she is a strong woman despite her problems that she has encountered she was able to overcome any obstacle in her life and doing it with confidence. Oprah works at her desired pace where the steward traits work at the pace of company. Therefore, they can only go so far when permitted by the company.
