The NTSH has a diverse population of clients. Whether the client is old, young, middle aged, African American, Hispanic, Caucasian, Baptist, Catholic, Non-religious etc. the Social Worker or any other staff should not be judgmental. When clients feel a sense of judgement, the client and client’s family will shut down and not open up to the staff. It is difficult to gather information from the client after shutting down. Many times the client does not want to be at the State Hospital; therefore, feeling judged only makes it more difficult for the client as well. More times than not the client is not in their right mind, the client may be talking to unseen others, off of medication, and or declining in cognitive behavior. For the Social
