Calvary Commission Reflective Essay

Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away. This was my group’s first real exposure to how great the people at Calvary Commission are. One of the male students took our group on this hike and once we got to the top of hill, in front of the prayer chapel, we were blessed by his words of wisdom; we received a little sermon. Little did we know that this is what our whole week would consist of. After a long …show more content…
I would do my best to serve my client in a just way. I would do my best to be fair him or her, regardless of their past. A lot of this population has made a mistake, just like everyone, the only difference is that they received punishment for it, so why should they be treated any differently? I would realize that the person does indeed have dignity and worth. They were broken people, but they have enough dignity to change their ways, and they are worth working with to change the negative habits. Creating positive relationships with them is always beneficial, especially for this specific population. They really need love and support in order for them to get their lives back in order. I will focus on their strengths and what will help them to grow and achieve what it is that they need to achieve. If I were feel that I am not treated a person from this population equally, or I feel as if I am discriminating against someone, depending on how bad the situation is, I will recommend them to a different social worker. If I feel that I do not need to take this step, I will talk with the client and what they need in order to receive the services that they are looking

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

When it comes to determining what age a child can understand the difference between right and wrong, I think it is determined by the individual child and the way they were raised. In general, I think a child as young as 6 or 7 can fully understand the difference between right and wrong. However, I do not think at that age they understand the consequences of their actions, therefore they should not be held accountable for their actions. Just because a child knows the difference between right and wrong, I think they lack mens rea. A developing mind is not complete until around age 25.…

Approximately 15 years ago, I was working at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. I attended several Infection Control Committee meetings where evidence was presented to the committee regarding the use of silver coated Foley catheters instead of the current standard catheters. The evidence suggested that the hospital would experience fewer incidences of catheter-acquired urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) because of the antimicrobial characteristics of the silver. I did not stay with the hospital long enough to observe any statistics that would verify the efficacy of switching to the silver coated catheters that the committee decided to adopt.…

As mentioned previously, I feel it is important to respect everyone regardless of their differences. By valuing the dignity and worth of a person as a social worker, we are striving to empower people and by increasing the clients desire to change their own needs, so we are essentially building up their self-worth and dignity, which will hopefully pour into society. By respecting a person, it nourishes the importance of human relations. When respect is given, respect is earned. By respecting the clients, families, organizations, and communities, it makes it easier to advocate for…

School is a positive energy and it brings me satisfaction when I finish a term with a good grade, but at the same time it can be depleting. I have to focus and give most of my time to school in order to fulfill my goal and receive good grades. I came home from work one day, and found my daughter’s school interim report card on the kitchen table. She usually gets really good grades, earning nothing below a B. However, to my surprise, this time around she came home with a C in History. Now, we had just bought her a new iPhone a few months prior to this incident because, as it turns out, she had made the all A honor roll. But inevitably, as with most teenagers, she ends up dedicating a considerable amount of time on her newly acquired mobile device. Immediately, the first thought that ran through my mind was that she had been distracted by the phone and had gotten careless in her studies.…

So this experience was different for me to go somewhere that so much emphasis is placed on the social aspect of religion. To me it was odd to see the broadcasting equipment and to hear the conversations of the different “groups” they wanted to create to “get the word of God into more people.” I loved how open a lot of the people where to me coming in as an outsider and for them being willing to talk to me and share with me why this was so important to them. What was really special was being able to see creed, code, cultus, and community all come into play in an actual church. To learn about these things is one thing, but when you see how they play out in real life, it makes being an outsider and taking the outsider’s viewpoint much more…
