There are three goals I have selected for my client in order to prevent another hospitalization: Client will participate in medical and psychological assessments at least two days prior to discharge, client will create a safety plan in the event of a medical emergency at least one day prior to discharge, and the client will build a healthy support system containing at least five individuals within six months after discharge.

One barrier I could face is based on Rose’s cultural background. Rose’s cultural values may not translate to or be in synchrony with my own cultural values (Thompson, 2011). This could pertain to subjects such as perceptions of child punishment, sexual orientation, or gender roles.
To combat this barrier, it is important to practice cultural sensitivity and cultural competence when working with clients with different backgrounds or cultures. You can do this by asking the client to clarify his or her customs. It is also important to note any language barriers if they are present and be prepared to call upon a translator, preferably not a family member, and acknowledge some phrases or emotions do not translate to the spoken English language or the American culture.
Probably the most obvious obstacle I will encounter with Rose is the large age difference between the client and myself. Rose was raised in a different time, with different values then from when I was raised. Based on my experience, older adult tend to be more conservative and apprehensive of treatment or interacting with a social worker. It is important in this case to recognize the age difference and to ask questions, instead of judgment, to avoid offending Rose in any
