Bill Gates is an extremely influential figure in the business world. “He 's been the richest man in the world for 15 out of the last 20 years” (Forbes, 2014). His current net worth is 85 billion dollars. He is a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and an investor. I respect his philanthropic endeavors the most. “He and Warren Buffett have thus far convinced over 100 of the super rich to sign on to the Giving Pledge, a promise to donate at least half one 's net worth to charity” (Forbes, 2014). He is an extremely intelligent, generous, and admirable individual.
Bill Gates is an example of someone who became very affluent without completing a college degree. He entered Harvard University in 1973 as a freshman and dropped out the following year. He made the decision when he saw the release of new microcomputer designs and how quickly they became of interest to the public. A friend of Bill Gates’ from high school named Paul Allen was also interested in pursuing this opportunity. They contacted the microcomputer designers stating that they had created easy-to-use software that would make the computers more practical for a greater population. The president of the company was intrigued and agreed to see what they had to offer. In just a few short weeks they had created the software, the president was impressed and hired both Paul Allen and Bill Gates. Their newfound conglomerate was called Microsoft.
