Should everyone be forced into going to college? Everyone should have the right to choose their future and even if individuals worked hard in college we would still need individuals to make burgers, drive us to places and make pizza. Not everyone needs to go to college because some talents requires college but some don't.

There are many underemployed college graduates. In the article, "Actually, College is Very Much Worth It" by Andrew J. Rotherham, in paragraph three it states that there are many rewarding and important jobs that don't require college, in fact there are more college graduates than the current job market needs. The amount of college graduates exceed the amount of job market needs and because of this college graduates don't often get jobs they desire. Some work on jobs that are performed by individuals with less education.

Summary: One of the more interesting readings in Behrens and Rosen’s Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum was “Many with New College Degree Find the Job Market Humbling”, by Catherine Rampell. She reveals just how severe our job market truly is. She explains that employment for recent college graduates strikes a low point. Also, the opening salaries for these scarce jobs plummeted compared to the previous years. Likewise, most jobs that these college graduates are taking do not even require a college education, such as waiting tables or working in fast food.…

However, going to college and earning a degree doesn’t guarantee an individual is going to get a job after graduation or even at all. Depending on the career chosen, it could be hard in “the real world” for graduates to find a well-paid job because of the increasing number of students with a college degree. There are large numbers of corporate layoffs nearly everyday, and the number of employers hiring college graduates has decreased significantly over the past couple of years. Many students are frustrated not to be getting job offers. Sometimes, if they find a job, it’s sometimes usually not in what they got their degree…

Stoller (2012) explains, based on personal experience, how college has just been a way for those who are seeking a better job and future rather than to increase your knowledge and understanding of the world around you. “For me, college had a profound impact on my life” (Stoller 2012 P436). Proving that college not only helped him get his dream job, but also explore the world in such a way that makes him happy, regardless of his social status or what level his job is. Although Murray (2007) also mentions the relationship between jobs and college, he explains it in a more technical way related to how the market works, “The demand for jobs is actually market driven…to people without one” (Murray 2007 P442). What Murray (2007) means by that is the fact that this society has put such a value on a college degree which Murray (2007) describes as a “false premium” meaning a kind of luxury that is actually overvalued in the job market.…

We view “college as a job” that gives substantial earnings returns to a college degree, irrespective of occupation, whether an individual is an insurance agent or a rocket scientist. This is not true because there are people with high degrees, like a PhD or a computer programmer, who have lost their jobs to layoffs. So having a college degree does not guarantee “substantial returns,” as Richard Vedder summarizes in his article, “For Many, College Isn’t Worth It." Vedder thinks the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) are fairly accurate and that college is not worth it for everyone because we are all created differently. An impartial understanding of the information is that school is justified, despite all the trouble, for some huge number of youngsters, but is a significantly more financially dangerous…

In the article, “College is a waste of time” by Dale Stephens, Dale gives his persuasive opinions on why college is a waste of time by giving out evidences of how college isn’t fully beneficial and describing people who are successful today without a college degree. Dale describes college as “rewarding conformity, regurgitation, and theory”, instead of, “rewarding independence, learning, and application”. Providing that college is also hungry for people’s wallet, The College Board Policy Center showed that tuitions have increased 3.6 times since 30 years ago. Not everyone needs college to be successful such as Mark Zukerberg who made it big without a diploma. Summing up the article, Dale states that in the end it’s people’s choice to look for…

Society is very split, everywhere I go I am surrounded by several adults who constantly tell me “stay in school”. Every child is pressured to remain in school and pass all of their classes. This pressure starts from a very young age when we got our first glimpse of education. Children are constantly told that “if you stay in school, you will become successful”. However, when asking the question, is staying in school (through college) really worth it?…

It is shown that on average that people who go to college make more money than people that stopped their education after high school. This is supported by a quote from Should Everyone Go to College? by Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill which says, “Hamilton Project research shows that 23- to 25-year-olds with bachelor’s degrees make $12,000 more than high school graduates but by the age 50, the gap has grown to $46,500” (Owen and Sawhill, 211). This quote shows that on average people when people decide to make an investment in their education, they are seeing that they are making more money than if they were to stop their education after they gained their high school diploma. Now making more money when you have a college degree is not always the case, there is still a good chance that you will have better job opportunities by having the…

Since I’ve begun college last fall I have been thinking about the purpose of college. Why have I been hearing since I started high school that college is the only option for me, especially as a black male? No one in my family ever entertained the idea of trade school, because maybe college isn’t for me. Why is that going straight to college after high school is my only option. But society says this is the norm and as Americans we conform and adapt.…

College does help to enhance knowledge and have an exceptional job, but not everyone has that, due to the obstacles people have to face. For those people who can go to college have the opportunity to study their desired majors and for the ones who are undecided on what they want to major still have the opportunity to finish the prerequisites yet gain knowledge while they are there. I don’t find it fair that some people who are in college because their parents told them even though it’s not the student/persons decision, it is most likely to have parents content that their child is attending college, therefore there are people wanting to attend, but for financial reasons they can’t which they should have a huge support to find a way to be in college to accomplish their goals and dreams. Equilibrium unemployment and disequilibrium unemployment are the basic categories of unemployment to apply on the total labor that the whole economy has (Sloman). Equilibrium unemployment is the difference between people that want to take the job they are offered and people that are willing and able to take the job. Disequilibrium unemployment occurs when the aggregate demand for labor is less than the aggregate supply of labor. Recently an analysis conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statics of the USA shows that in the American job market a college bachelor degree won’t give you the certainty that you will find a job after your graduation.…

The job market is not in a position to absorb college graduates as soon as they leave college. Many students that have acquired a college education end up getting employed in areas that they did not study for. These people take up jobs at the mall or restaurants because they are unable to get their desired jobs. Over 50% of college, graduates spend a minimum of two years before being able to venture into their career field (Bennett & Wilezol, 2013). For some, they give up hope on ever being employed in their area of training and end up doing menial jobs.…
