All my life there has always been an emphasis on volunteering in the community. However, as I have gotten older I have really begun to observe how not only volunteering is important for those I am assisting, but also how it has begun to shape me as a person. I help out regularly in two main areas. The first is a Kids Quest leader at my local church and the second is as an assistant swim instructor. In both cases I get to be in an environment I love and thrive it, and that is around children. Being a Sunday school teacher is much more than what most people believe. Yes, we are there to guide children through their spiritual experience, but we are there to care and show them a type of love that the might not receive in their life. It is important to remember that the church needs to care for the basic needs of people in order to make an impact on a person life. To the kids you are with, you are more than just a regular teacher; you are their friend. I started off my journey teaching children when I was only 10 there have been approximately helping for 6 years. At that time, I was placed in a kindergarten class to be a leader whose main focus was cleaning up after kids and making sure they were not disruptive. Over the past couple years, I have learned classroom management as well as how to support my fellow leaders.
