SHOULD GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD (GM FOOD) SHOULD BE BANNNED Nowadays genetically modified food is widespread all over the world. GM foods are genetically modified using biotechnology. More and more GM foods appear on our stores and supermarkets. GM foods are designed for greater resistance to viruses and pests, higher nutritional value and longer shelf life. Food crops have been genetically modified for several reasons most of which produce a financial benefit to farmers and the chemical companies that produce the GMOs. In nearly all cases, these benefits

Firstly all of the sorts of GM plants are stable against illnesses and mean weather. A particular interesting thing about genetically modified crops is they can be programed to be drought and cold resistant. By being drought resistant, even in the deepest weeks of the dry season, or even in the driest parts of Africa, these crops will grow regardless. This is a huge advantage of technology and science. Being cold resistant is also an interesting advantage instead of the traditional “growing season” being in the summer months, winter will also be a productive time for farmers. This means more produce and more income. Secondly, they ripen fast and keep longer than usual plants. It was easier to move them and keep fresh. In our growing population world agriculture was already highly productive and most of the people are not fed. Hunger in these world has nothing to do with normal production. Genetic engineering be important to parts of the world where agricultural production lags, often the same parts of the world facing the brunt of the expected increases in the global population. World hunger is a big problem for people in future. A major advantage of using GM Foods is that they can be modified so that they are resistant to weeds, pest and other diseases. Nearly 40% of the world's food crop is lost every year
