- People who don’t agree with a book can send “challenges” which are complaints about a book for a number of reason, these complaints can be sent to a school district or even the government.
- Most books are banned from schools due to parents considering the themes in specific books to be to “mature” or “obscene” for children
- There have been over 17 000 attempts to challenge books
- One example of this is from a State Senator bill Holtzclaw who believed that the novel “The Bluest Eye” be removed from schools curriculums due to it being “highly objectionable”
- Not only books are being censored to students, there has been an increase of online resources being blocked as well, this of course does include legitimate educational websites
