Books are challenged and banned for many reasons. One book that has been challenged many times is This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki. Although it does have some mature themes, it should not be banned due to the fact that many adolescents go through, or have gone through, similar things in their lives and it can help them see that other people understand what they are going through. Also it talks about the taboo topics we don’t talk about in society, or which could be important to their lives.…
The book “Bone: Out From Boneville” by Jeff Smith (Smith) was banned along with the rest of his Bone series for sexual tension, the use of tobacco and alcohol, frightening images, violence, and racism. I don’t think that this book should be banned simply because these accusations are either not focused on during the book, or completely false. (Smith) The plot includes three cousins of an imaginary specie called a Bone. They are running through a desert after being chased off by an angry mob when they get split up due to a huge crowd of locust.…

The argument of whether or not banned books should be taught has been debated for years upon years. Why not provide a simple solution that allows each individual decide whether or not they are exposed to these “evil” banned books. This solutions involves creating an option for a class that’s curriculum is based on books that have been challenged or that are or have been banned. This class would still complete the mandatory state standards, which would make it comparable to a normal English class. This is a simple middle ground in which these banned books can still be taught with the lessened worry of offending students, parents, etc.…
For thousands of years, books have entertained and educated the masses. To ban a book is downright unjust in the way it forbids a person to communicate their thoughts, as well as restricts people from enjoying a piece of literature. Books as a whole are excellent teachers, and show another face to the world, and should not be banned. Moreover, the banning of books infringes on the freedom of speech and the freedom to read.…
Book Banning is Misguided. Book banning refers to the restriction of access to a book through assertion of processes initiated by a ruling organization or individual. Targeted books mostly those in schools, libraries or book stores are challenged by individuals in any particular society due to kind of content illustrated in them. Banning books is a topic that’s on everybody's mind. Some people believe that we should ban books due to many reasons, others have different opinions. Books should notshouldn’t be banned from the library because not every student is on the same reading level, students have different interests in books, and mature students find mature books more interesting. Not every student is on the same reading level. I’m on a way higher reading level than my grade.…

Knowledge is power, and that power is taken away from humanity every time a book is banned. Although those who ban the books may have good intentions, the action results in more harm than good. Books are banned due to consideration of the words inside being offensive on moral, religious, and political grounds. The book may be sexually explicit, challenge religion or politics, or considered a threat to public welfare. In the United States, the government cannot ban books due to the first amendment prohibiting it (the founding fathers).…
Libraries should not be allowed to ban books from schools because some people find the books inappropriate for containing religious beliefs, homosexuality, offensive language and sexually explicit scenes or descriptions (Lopez). If books can be sold and produce then they should be allowed in libraries. Some books could even educate not only kids but also adults. Everyone has the right to read what they want to read when they are at the library. There is also one week a month that is referred to Banned and Challenged Book Week that is used to celebrate the freedom to read.…
We have seen throughout history free nations become dictatorships. From the Chinese Revolution in the 40’s to the Vietnam War. We, as American citizens would want to stay as free as possible, but things like book banning limits that freedom. Schools and other places that have libraries are allowed to ban books because of the information they contain, and that is completely un-American. School boards and other organizations that ban books take away our freedoms and undermine democracy.…

Pete Hautman once said “Yes, books are dangerous. They should be dangerous- they contain ideas.” People are banning books because they contain bad words or they have things that parents find offensive. Yes this may be true but authors put these things in a book for a reason, they aren’t putting bad words in books just for the fun of it. I think districts should not have the right to ban books because students have the freedom to read and teachers should be able to make the right decision.…
