Because of technology today, vaccines can prevent diseases that once killed millions. Children have suffered from diseases for thousands of years. It is hard to believe that a parent would choose to put their kid in harms way by not immunizing them. A childs health should not be wagered in any way. Although some diseases aren’t life threatening, it is terrible to watch a kid suffer through any pain. Some parents fail to see that not vaccinating their children because of a small needle can cause them to have a horrible sickness. Amy Parker, for example, was not vaccinated as a child and contracted many vaccine preventable diseases. She wished her mother would have vaccinated her, so she didn’t have to suffer through “Pain, discomfort, the inability to breathe or to eat or to swallow, fever and nightmares, itching all over [the] body so much that [one] can’t stand lying on bed sheets, losing so much weight [a person] can’t walk properly, diarrhea that leaves [people] lying prostrate on the bathroom floor, the unpaid time off work for parents,... the quarantine, missing school, missing parties, the worry, [and] the sleepless nights...” (Parker). However, vaccines aren’t pleasant either. Many parents fear the embarrassment of when their child gets a shot and throws a temper tantrum. Others just can’t imagine letting their baby get stabbed by a nurse.
