Argumentative Essay On Technology Free Week

Improved Essays
“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity” (Einstein). Although some people may think that technology is harmful, initializing a technology free week is not beneficial, as it made learning challenging.
It is onerous going technology free for one week at school. I am not used to writing down my homework from the board because all the assignments are always posted on Edmodo. Writing down my homework was arduous because I have not done it for several years, so it does not a habitual activity. Furthermore, when I write down my homework, I ordinarily loose the sheet of paper on which I write the homework down on. Additionally, handwriting all of the notes for the week negatively impacts my learning as it

In addition, based on the article “The Truth About Homework,” by Alfie Kohn, an abundance of practice helps students remember the answer, but does not get students accustomed to thinking about the topic. Homework helps memorization, but doesn’t benefit or teach students the actual topic. Many students cram for tests and forget the next day. Or, they do one problem and don’t know how to do another using the same concepts because they are so accustomed to particular problems. Technically speaking, the amount of homework given doesn’t matter in the long run.…

However, little by little I started to make friends and talk to my roommates. I also struggle to adapt to my schedule. I felt like I did not have time for anything, and when I did I was not doing my homework. Since most of my classes do not actually have homework, but just readings I took the course lightly. That was a great mistake because I fell behind in my readings and when midterms came I would have to read like 200 pages in one day.…

Test anxiety only causes students to perform badly and makes them forget some of the content they learned. "Standardized testing evaluates a student 's performance on one particular day and does not take into account external factors" (University of Columbia, 2013). Teacher are stressed out due to the fact that they are given what they are supposed to teach and don’t really know how to teach it. Every year teachers format their material to fit what they have seen on previous tests. Testing doesn’t take part in a student’s future and won’t be significant in their real-world jobs.…

    Math In High School

To put it frank it was a good feeling and amusing when I passed math every year in high school because I really didn’t pay too much attention or even focus as much as I should have at certain times, since I wanted to be stubborn and ignorant. There were times where I would just decide I didn’t want to learn the lessons because they were either being taught difficultly, lack of total interest and or it didn’t seem to be useful in my life for what I planned on doing. Looking back now I can admit I was wrong for having that kind of mind set which I will be going more into depth in another paragraph about the usefulness of math. It was also during that time that I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. For instance, one of my biggest weaknesses is my comprehension but thanks to tutoring and hard work I was able to improve myself to the point where I know what needs to be done to make sure I completely understand the problem and what it is asking.…

“I couldn’t even count how many kids just take the easy way out and disengage from the homework given at my school. They refuse to do homework and it’s lowering their grades. But I can’t blame them because I ask myself on a daily basis why I don’t just quit already and join the rest of the crown. I could actually have a life then instead of doing homework all day. I could participate in extracurricular activities like I used to when I participated in lacrosse, but now I can’t because my grades are slipping due to not finishing homework!…

Even though I sometimes spend a lot of time studying, I don’t see improvements in my grades because I’m not doing it effectively. “According to the Cleveland Federal Reserve study, it 's not the amount of time spent studying that predicts academic success, but effective study strategies. While spending only two minutes studying for a complex class is unlikely to be effective, there is little evidence that grades correspondingly improve with more time spent studying” (Thompson). In my own experience, I haven’t been able to find a study strategy that really helps me stay focused. I’ve tried isolating myself from any possible distractions, putting myself in a quiet environment, and listening to music, but none of these strategies has ever worked for me.…

    Naplan Advantages

The consensus among teachers is that a few hours of testing simply cannot be used to judge a student’s ability. How can a few tests cover enough of the curriculum to be considered a fair test? A high school teacher claims1 that ‘[w]hat [the students] study … is not linked to any current learning or life experience’ and that ‘[t]hey cram for a week or so and then forget about it.’ The tests are of no use simply because they do not cover enough of the right material. This demonstrates how out of touch NAPLAN is with the rest of the educational system. The items tested will be of little use because real life is not multiple choice, and does not involve questions like those on NAPLAN tests.…

As everyone is well aware, plagiarism can have serious offenses and is not taken lightly in schools. While plagiarism is an issue, no one is asking why the students feel the need to do it. “Over ½ of high school students plagiarize from the internet” (Borba). The problem is not that the students are lazy. It is that they are tired and worn out physically and mentally from the workload given by…
