Down Your Screen Week

Could you go a day without your technology? Some schools have implemented a program called “Shut Down Your Screen Week.” This is a program where students don't utilize any electronics devices for one week. With the entire student body participating, the reliance on technological devices is diminished. More schools should join this effort to reap the benefits of increased student focus and an increased family bond.
First, we should take the fact that using too much technology affects the way we comprehend and behave. In the article “Attached to Technology and Paying a Price” by Matt Richtel it gives several scientifically proven facts that using technology to much may affect the way we understand. If you are juggling e-mail, phone calls and other incoming information it can lose people’s focus. Also, as the text states, “The stimulation provokes excitement that researchers say can be addictive. In its absence, people feel bored.” This means that people can become addicted and when not using technology become weary with things they used to love to do. Another reason is we should engage in this program for the reason using technology while doing something else like multitasking it would honestly just create more trouble focusing. Some people may say that playing a video game or watching a movie with your family helps to bond with family. In addition may be true, but you can get addicted and not want to do anything else. “Lily, a second grader, is only allowed an hour a day of unstructured time, which she often spends with her devices.” This shows 95% of the kids that are playing on devices and not outside or with friends.
