1. Obtain an Undergraduate Pre – Law Major – Most law schools in Canada require you to have a bachelor’s degree or three years of school working towards a bachelor’s degree prior to law school. Requirements vary from school to school, though some schools require certain credits, most schools just have required number or credits as well as a Bachelor’s degree.
2. Law School Admission Test (LSAT) – Before any application into a law school one must past the LSAT test. This is a standardized exam which is held four times a year with a focus on reading comprehension, analytical reasoning, and logical reasoning. To prepare for this exam there are free study materials such as practice exams, past exams, and sample questions and answers. However, many third party institutions offer courses to help individuals prepare for this exam. The application process for the exam is done online, the exam is taken on designated locations, generally a university or a college, and a score between 120 and 180 is given 3 weeks after the exam.
3. Attend Law School – The following step in becoming a lawyer is to attend law school. Individuals must attend law a law school approved by Convocation for their education to be recognized provincially. There are schools in every province and territory aside from PEI, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, and Yukon that offer law.
