Chapter one of "The College Expierience" studies the relationship beween highschool and college, as well as the potential challenges of the transition. Many students fail to recognise the differences ahead of time and this leads to them not posessing enough "Grit" to make it to the end and receive a degree. The development of "Grit" starts the minute the student walks through the doors of their school of higher education. Throughout their experience, they must obtain a world-class skillset and mindset neccessary for success. Transitioning from highschool to college represents a change it schedule, responisiblity, and time management.

Being resilient requires more than just being able to bring success from your failure. It also enables you to learn from these failures, so that you won 't make the same mistakes more than once or twice. One step necessary to develope reliilience would be , making a failure-proof plan. This only means making a "Plan B", incase things don 't go exactly how they were initially planned. For example, if your initial plan was to attend class, but you find out that you have to work within thattime frame. Missing class would mean missing notes, and missing work would mean missing payment. An effective "Plan B" would either include, telling your employer before hand that you have class, so that your schedule may be adjusted, or telling your instructor that you have to work, so that they may send you the notes through another source. In another attempt to avoid failure, you could ask classmate to text or email you the notes, or perhaps just record the entire class and send it to you as a multimedia message, the possibilities are …show more content…
Although, there may be a whole new standard as it comes to work, freedom and responsibility, it does not mean students are completely alone. I remember being told in highschool that one of the major differences between highschol and college was the fact tha, in college there is noone to help you. I was basically told that I would be completely alone. This isn 't neccesarily a bad thing, as it gives me a chnace to develop my critical thinking and problem solving skills. However, it is not neccessarily the truth either. There are plenty of human resources available to assist me in the transition from highschool to college. There are academic advisors, couselors, tutors, and upperclass students willing to answer any questions I may have. Overall, college is definitly a new experience in terms of expectations. There is alot of work to do, but alot of time to do it if you actually manage your time wisely. Freedom is a new privilege, however, not everything that glitters is gold. You may think that this freedom means you may do whatever you want, but it will hurt you in the end if you choose to abuse this privilege. The overall status of your success will be determined by the power you have to accept challenge, the will you have to keep goign when you hit a road block, the maturity you develop to take on responsibility and the "Grit" you will discover as you complete your college
