The History of Al Qaeda
According to BBC News, “Many volunteers from Arab countries had gone to Afghanistan during the 1980s. They wanted to help the Afghans fight the invading Russian army. When the Russian army was defeated, al-Qaeda was set up to continue the Jihad against people the volunteers thought were enemies of Islam.” Al Qaeda allies include the Taliban, Tehrik-I-Taliban Pakistan, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Turkistan Islamic Party, Lashkar-e-Taliba, Jaish-E-Mohammad, Jemaah Islamiyah, and Egyptian Islamic Jihad. The goals of Al Qaeda were to drive Americans and the United States influence out of Muslim countries, mainly Saudi Arabia and to destroy Israel. It was also a movement that calls for strict interpretation called the Sharia Law. What is the Sharia Law and why don’t America want it? Many Americans believe that the Sharia law is strict Islamic laws, which forbids freedom, and many things. If a person makes a mistake, they are victims of harsh punishments which can lead to death. Americans do not want this influence in the country.
