Al-Qaeda was a famous terrorist group well known for their many attacks on the U.S. but what they are really known for is their 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Many people people were astonished by these attacks. It all started on September 11, 2001, at 8:45 am 19 militants linked with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Over 3,000 people were killed during these attacks including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. Reportedly financed by Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden the leader of al-Qaeda terrorist organization, they were supposedly acting in retribution for America's support for Israel, its involvement in the Persian Gulf War, and its continued military existence in the Middle east. Osama bin laden the organize of the 9/11 attacks remained at large until May 2, 2011, when he was finally hunted down and killed by U.S. forces.(“9/11 Attacks”) …show more content…
Khalid Sheikh was one of the key planners of the 9/11 attacks. The terrorist one of the most known flights of the 9/11 attacks were Saeed al Ghamdi, Ahmed al Haznawi, Ziad Jarrah, Ahmed al Nami were all on flight 93. According to Yosri Fouda a journalist at an Arabic language television channel Al Jazeera who questioned Khalid Sheikh Mohammed said that Mohammed planned to blow up about a dozen American planes in china around the mid-1990’s. Main parts of the plot took place in hamburg. Four of the main pilots and organizers in “Hamburg Cell” Which would control of the September 11 attacks including the lead hijacker Mohammed Atta. An estimated 123 billion dollars were lost in the first 2-4 weeks after the twin towers
