Online Learning versus Traditional Classroom Learning

Today, many students are faced with the decision to go to a school where they sit in a classroom and learn from a teacher face to face, or go to school online where the teacher sends out assignments through email and discussion boards. Not only do students have this decision for college, but they now have it for high school as well. There are many pros and cons for both, and many factors to consider for each option. An online student must have the skill to move forward with online learning. Online learning is mostly for visual learners. Kinesthetic learners may have a difficult time learning with all of the visual work required. An online student must do everything on his or her own; sometimes independence may become an issue. There are advantages for both online and traditional learning as well. With traditional classroom learning, the student has the option to interact with other students face to face. It is the best option for kinesthetic and auditory learners. Some students learn better when talking face to face with others. Students that may not have much self-motivation may need their professor telling them when things are due. Older students may appreciate classroom learning because it requires limited technology use. Students have the advantage of listening to a teacher talk and hear the books material in a different sense. Online learners have the advantage to study or do an assignment on their own time. They do have a time limit, but it is not as structured as traditional learning. The student has the right to study, learn, or take a test wherever they feel comfortable. They may choose to take their test in the comfort of their home, or in a public library. There is always interaction between the professor and the student; the professor has the chance to get to know all of their students through emailing, discussion boards and their personal assignments.
